Shamim in line for World Cup debut

Bangladesh selector Habibul Bashar on Saturday informed that left-hand batsman Shamim Hossain and pacer Rubel Hossain are likely to replace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan in Bangladesh’s playing XI for their next ICC T20 World Cup Super 12 match against South Africa.

Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib is in severe doubt against South Africa after he picked hamstring injury during their must-win clash against West Indies.

Shakib who limped throughout the game against West Indies, is under observation for a 48-hour rest and later medical team will assess his condition while the wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan is rested for three days for his abdominal pain.

Nurul was rested against West Indies for the injury that he received a day before their game against England.

“We have some concern over Shakib and Nurul’s injury but we will get their injury update within 24 hours. Shamim and Rubel are yet to play a single match in the ongoing World Cup and they are part of our next match’s plan but it depends on wickets. We will try to make the best possible XI,” Bangladesh selector Habibul told the media on Saturday.

Shamim who played seven T20s so far is yet to make a cut in the playing XI in the world T20 while fast bowler Rubel Hossain was included in the 15-man Bangladesh squad of the World Cup as replacement of Mohammad Saifuddin who was ruled out of the tournament due to a back injury.
