India President Ramnath Kobind is expected to visit Bangladesh to take part in the Victory Day celebrations this year. Both the countries are in discussion about the visit.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of independence, liberation war, Bangladesh-India diplomatic relations, and the surrender of the occupying Pakistani forces to the Allied forces. Mujib Year celebrations are coming to an end on December 16 on Victory Day.

Concerned sources said that the Indian side has already agreed to attend the official visit of their President to Bangladesh on the occasion of the Victory Day celebration. An official announcement will come very soon, the sources said.

Ramnath Kobind has assumed the President of India since July 25, 2016. This will be his first visit to Bangladesh as President.

Kovind’s visit was discussed during a meeting between Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla and Bangladesh High Commissioner Muhammad Imran earlier this week, the sources added.

Bangladesh celebrates Victory Day on 16 December every year to celebrate the country’s liberation from Pakistan in 1971.
