Saifuddin returns home

Bangladesh all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin returned to Dhaka on Thursday from the ongoing ICC T20 World after being ruled out from the tournament following his back injury.

Earlier Bangladesh Cricket Board included fast bowler Rubel Hossain in the 15-man squad of the ongoing tournament as replacement of Saifuddin.

Saifuddin picked four wickets in the three matches that he played in the qualifying round while he picked 1-38 against Sri Lanka in the opening game of the Super 12s campaign, including an over costing 22 runs.

As per the team official, Saifuddin complained about pain on the left side of his back after the last game against Sri Lanka.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 announced on Wednesday that they have approved Rubel Hossain as a replacement for Mohammad Saifuddin in the Bangladesh squad.

Fast bowler Rubel, who has played 159 international matches including 28 T20Is was a reserve as per the allowance for teams to travel with extra players in view of COVID-19 quarantine requirements.

Bangladesh who were handed second consecutive defeat on Wednesday in their Super 12s campaign, will take on Friday West Indies at Shahrjah.
