Four people, including a couple and their two-years-old son, were burnt after a fire broke out at a house in Gulshan area in the capital on Wednesday.

The injured were identified as D Am Rafiqul Islam, 35, his wife Maliha Anha Urmi, 32, their son Masrur Md Rafin, 2, and domestic help Moni, 35. 

Lima Khanam, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) headquarters control room, said the fire originated around 11:30am on the first floor, where the family lives. On information, eight firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the blaze around 1:15pm.

The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately, she added.

The injured were first taken to United Hospital from where they were rushed to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, hospital sources said.

Aiyub Hossain, resident surgeon of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said of the injured, Razib sustained two percent burns, Urmi sustained 70 percent burns, Rafin and Moni sustained 30 percent burns. Urmi, Rafin and Moni are critical in critical condition.

Razib survived with minor injuries as he was in another room and getting ready for office when the fire originated, family sources said.
