SC upholds death of man convicted for killing Rajshahi child

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC)  upheld on Tuesday a High Court order that maintained death sentence of a man convicted in a case lodged over rape and subsequently murder of eight-year-
old girl.

The Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order, dismissing the appeal filed by convict Md Shukur Ali.

Rajshahi Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal convicted and sentenced Shukur to death on January 30, 2008. The death reference of the judgement was later sent to the High Court and the convict too filed an appeal against the lower court judgement.

The High Court on May 13, 2013, upheld the lower court verdict, making the convict to challenge the judgement before the apex court.
