The Daily Sun, a leading English newspaper of the country, celebrated its 11th anniversary of publication on Sunday.
The national daily arranged a daylong programme at its office in Bashundhara Residential Area of the capital on the occasion.
They highly appreciated the newspaper for its commitment to journalism and the country’s development.
The Daily Sun, a concern of the country’s leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, started its journey on October 24, 2010 with the commitment to mirroring the truth impartially.
Celebrating the Daily Sun’s anniversary with enthusiasm, its journalists took a fresh vow to continue fulfiling the promise of modern journalism being pledged to its readers.
Daily Sun Editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury along with Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam, ambassadors of South Korea, Brazil and Kosovo and senior diplomats from the High Commission of India, Embassies of Japan and Nepal, former minister and Jatiya Party secretary general Mujibul Haque Chunnu MP, East West Media Group Limited Director Imdadul Huq Milan, Bangladesh Pratidin Editor and CEO of NEWS24 and Radio Capital Naem Nizam, Acting Editor of Kaler Kantho Shahed Muhammad Ali, banglanews24.com Editor Jewel Mazhar, Daily Sun Executive Editor Rezaul Karim Lotus and NEWS24 Executive Editor Rahul Raha inaugurated the celebration of the anniversary by cutting a cake in the morning.
In his welcome address, Daily Sun Editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury shared the success story of the newspaper’s 11-year-journey and thanked Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir for their continuous support.
Hailing the objective news presentation of the Daily Sun, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said the daily is going ahead with constructive ideas and reaching the peak of journalism under the leadership of Editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury.
“I thank you all and congratulate the Daily Sun for stepping into the 12th year. It’s clear from the graph that the Daily Sun is growing high. I want to thank all the journalists, photographers and technical professionals as at the end of the day it’s a team work that ensures success of a daily,” he said.
“We have to build a beautiful city for the sake of our next generation and I want help from all of you in this regard. Let’s make a healthy, moveable and modern Dhaka,” he added.
EWMGL Director Imdadul Huq Milan congratulated all who are related to the Daily Sun on the occasion its 11th anniversary.
“Kaler Kantho, Bangladesh Pratidin, Daily Sun; we all began our journey together. Later, banglanews24.com, NEWS24, TSports and Radio Capital joined us. Now, we are considered as the biggest media group of the country. I wish that the Daily Sun will continue practising standard journalism many more years ahead,” he said.
Bangladesh Pratidin Editor and CEO of NEWS24 and Radio Capital Naem Nizam said the Daily Sun is doing pretty well under the leadership of Editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury and set to play a leading role in journalism at home and abroad.
“I congratulate the daily on its 11th anniversary of publication. I wish that the Daily Sun will be a stronger voice in favour of the spirit of the Liberation War and Bangladesh,” he said.
Dhaka North City Corporation, Bashundhara Group sector-A, East West Property Development, Bashundhara Kings, Grameen Bank, Private University Public Relations Officers Association, Canadian University of Bangladesh, United International University and American International University Bangladesh wished the Daily Sun.
Rongdhanu Group Managing Director Kawsar Ahmed, BASIS local market standing committee chairman Mostafizur Rahaman Sohel also wished the Daily Sun.
Brazilian Ambassador Joao Tabajara de Oliveira Junior termed the anniversary day ‘the happiest day’ and expressed his earnest greetings to all on the occasion.
“It’s an honour to speak some words on such an important day for the Daily Sun and Bashundhara Group. It’s always a pleasure to be here as the Daily Sun is the first newspaper that I visited when I arrived in Bangladesh in 2017. The warm greetings I received here was remarkable,” he said.
“Brazil has always a special place in the hearts of Bangladeshis. I thank you very much and I congratulate you on the 11th anniversary of the Daily Sun,” he added.
South Korean envoy Lee Jang-keun wished the Daily Sun on its founding anniversary and highlighted the role of the media in cementing the relationships between his country and Bangladesh.
“It’s an honour and pleasure for me to be here on the occasion of the 11th anniversary of the Daily Sun. I would like to congratulate all from the bottom of my heart,” he said.
“My mission is here to further strengthen and deepen the ties between South Korea and Bangladesh. The role of the media and journalists is important for strengthening the ties between our two countries. And I look forward for continuation of cooperation of the Daily Sun in this regard,” he added.
Praising the Daily Sun for introducing a healthy trend in journalism, Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo Guner Ureya congratulated the daily on its founding anniversary.
“I congratulate you all on the 11th anniversary of the Daily Sun. I hope along with all other media outlets of your group you will continue your success and I wish all the best to the Daily Sun,” he said.
Deputy Ambassador of Japan Hiroyuki Yamaya appreciated the Daily Sun for the role it has been playing in connecting Bangladesh with the global readers.
“I congratulate journalists and staff of the Daily Sun and hope that the daily will continue extending support for strengthening ties between Japan and Bangladesh and promoting mutual understanding,” he said.
Kumar Rai, deputy chief of the Mission of Nepal, greeted the Editor, journalists and staff of the Daily Sun on the 11th anniversary and wished more success of the daily in the coming days.
“You are providing good service for your people by presenting accurate and timely news and promoting and further strengthening bilateral and diplomatic relationships of Bangladesh with other countries through your newspaper,” he said.
Jatiya Party Chairman and Deputy Leader of the Opposition GM Quader, First Secretary of the High Commission of India in Dhaka Animesh Chowdhury and Second Secretary Debabrata Paul, and Head of Public Relations and Culture of the Embassy of Japan Komine Ken and Cultural Representative Megumi Shimizu also greeted the Daily Sun.
Later, a colourful cultural programme was held at the office of the Daily Sun where news professionals and staff of the daily performed.
