Md Afzal Hossain from Narail District Sports Association and Sumaya Dewan from BKSP emerged the fastest man and woman in their respective U-19 groups on the first day of Shahid Sheikh Russel 37th National Junior (age-level) Athletics Competition at the Army Stadium in the capital on Friday.

Afzal took 10.71 sec and Sumaya 12.20 sec to complete their 100m races.

A total of 18 events took place on the first day. BKSP secured the top place of the medal table with 9 golds, 6 silvers and 2 bronze medals, Narail DSA second with 4 golds, 2 silvers and 4 bronze medals and Sylhet third with 2 golds and a silver medal.
