In-person classes and exams of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have resumed on Thursday after closure of nearly 18 months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier, on October 11 this year, the university reopened its residential halls for its students, except the first-year students maintaining Covid safety protocols.

However, the first-year students are to take part in online classes and examinations till further notice.

The authorities asked the students to take the first dose of Covid vaccine from the Savar Upazila Health Complex on October 21 following the university’s previously launched special vaccination campaign.

Claiming satisfactory progress towards academic activities amid Covid closure, university treasurer Prof Rasheda Akhter said the previous academic calendar will be followed.

‘We don’t need to cut holidays or the duration of semester and academic year to cover academic loss as we were first to initiate virtual classes and examinations”, she added.

Like all other educational institutions in the country, the JU was shut in March last year to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
