Experts have suggested for adopting climate friendly sustainable agriculture practices to promote prosperity and inclusiveness development of Bangladesh.

Addressing a webinar, the speakers also emphasised on climate resilient agriculture and environment friendly saline tolerant to increase production.

Department of Agricultural Extension field services wing Director AKM Monirul Alam was the chief guest at the webinar organized by ICCO Cooperation on Monday, said a news release.

Monirul Alam said the reliable climate information among farmers, climate insurance, and private sector engagement are pivotal for adaptive agriculture to tackle climate change in Bangladesh.

He suggested that social protection can improve the livelihoods opportunities of poor people through safety net programs against negative impacts of climate change.

Olga Speckhardt, Head of Global Insurance Solutions at Syngenta Foundation; Ataus Sopan Malik, Managing Director at AR Mallik Seeds, Ana Perez Aponte, Development Director at Inclusive Business Sweden were also present as panelists.

Koen Everaert from delegation of the European Union  provided special remarks during the webinar reflecting the EU’s future programming will focus on social protection where nutrition will be mainstreamed.

The speakers also urged to consider multi-stakeholder collaboration to ensure an enabling environment for agri-innovation for adaptation to climate change.
