Former Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe Mortaza on Monday regretted the ongoing assault over the Hindu community terming it a defeat to humanity.

Mashrafe, who is a member of the parliament from Narail 2, stated on his official Facebook page that he was deeply saddened with the entire state of the affair and the pain only doubled after watching the Tigers’ losing to Scotland in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifying round opener on Sunday.

“Saw two defeats last night. One was Bangladesh’s national cricket team’s defeat that hurt me a lot and the other defeat was for the whole nation which broke my heart,” said Mashrafe.

“We never want to see this red and green. So many dreams, so many hard-fought life battles came to an end in an instant. May Allah guide us,” he said.

Earlier, a group of miscreants set fire to several houses of the Hindus at a remote village of Pirganj Upazila in Rangpur district on Sunday night following a Facebook post allegedly by a Hindu youth defaming Kaaba.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh were handed a shocking six-run defeat against Scotland in their opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup qualifier on Sunday night.
