Mentioning that the Cumilla puja mandap incident was aimed at destroying communal harmony of the country, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Sunday said the perpetrators will be arrested soon.
He made the remarks while talking to reporters at his secretariat office.
"Two to three suspects have already been arrested. The incident was carried out with an ill-motive to destroy religious harmony and deteriorate the law and order of the country," he said.
Asaduzzaman said exemplary punishment will be meted out to those involved in the incident through proper investigation.
He also expressed his condolence at the loss of lives in Chandpur and Noakhali following the Cumilla incident.
Soon after the Comilla incident, four lives were lost in Hajiganj of Chandpur and some policemen were also injured, the minister said, adding that some small incidents also occurred in Noakhali, Cox's Bazar and Feni districts.
"No incident has been reported since Saturday night. Our security forces are working with patience and we’re working based on intelligence information. Those who are trying to destroy communal harmony won’t succeed," he said.
