Abdul Quader Chowdhury, who studied up to Class X, is now an owner of a luxurious nine-storey building at Mirpur, two deluxe flats at Gulshan and Mirpur, a living house and a villa (farm house) in Gazipur and several cars.

He earned all this wealth through cheating people by impersonating himself as an additional secretary of Bangladesh government.

Police gleaned the information after grilling Quader and three others on the first day remand.

AKM Hafiz Akhter, additional commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, came up with the findings at a press briefing in the capital on Saturday.

Earlier on Thursday, police arrested Quader, who used to impersonate an additional secretary of Public Administration Ministry, his wife Sharmeen Chowdhury Soa, Shahidul Alam and Anisur Rahman from the city’s Kawran Bazar, Mirpur and Gulshan areas.

A prado model car, a foreign pistol, a magazine were seized from them.

Later, they ware put on a 4-day remand.

Quader had business relation with expelled Jubo League leader JK Shamim, now who is in jail. He also introduced himself as legal adviser to DATCO Group owned by Moosa Bin Shamsher Prince.

Quader founded Dhaka Trade Corporation, Zaminder Trading, Samin Enterprise, Chowdhury Group, Human Improvement Foundation, Satata Properties, Dana Logistics and Dana Motors, the officer said, adding that he set up those for deceiving people.

“He has a 6,000 square feet office at Gulshan, for which he pays Tk five lakh as monthly rent and there is another office at Kawran Bazar,” he said.

Like notorious cheat Shaheed Karim, he used to take selfies with important persons and exhibit those at offices.

He used to travel in a prado car with sticker of additional secretary and used to visit secretariat, the additional commissioner said. Two cases were filed against him and other arrestees with Pallabi and Tejgaon Police Stations. Six more cases were filed against Quader earlier.
