IGP directs deputies to ensure security during Durga Puja

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed has directed the field level officers of police to ensure security in and out of the Durga Puja mandaps throughout the country.

The chief of the police gave the directive during a meeting on law and order situation regarding the puja at police headquarters in the capital on Wednesday afternoon.

All the senior officers of the police headquarters and representatives of different intelligence agencies participated in the meeting when chiefs of range and metropolitan units of police got connected to it virtually.

The IGP also directed them to be more watchful to thwart any rumour and propaganda centering the puja.

He asked his deputies to keep communication with the puja observance committees.

Monitoring cells to be set up at the police headquarters and the units will observe overall situation.

The biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, Durga Puja, will begin on October 11 and continue till October 15.

In Bangladesh, some 31,137 puja mandaps are set to be worshiped.
