Qcoom CEO remanded in DSA case

A Dhaka court placed e-commerce platform  Qcoom owner and chief executive officer (CEO) Ripon Miah on two-day remand in  a case lodged under Digital Security Act (DSA) for embezzling money through
online fraudulence.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Asheq Imam passed the order as police  produced him before the court and pleaded to place him on 10-day remand in  the case lodged with Paltan Police Station.

A customer of Qcoom filed the case and detective branch (DB) of police arrested Ripon from Motijheel area on October 3. Ripon in the primary

interrogation confessed of not delivering goods of around Taka 250 crore in spite of taking the money in advance.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police additional commissioner AKM Hafiz Akter at a press briefing earlier today said because of the covid restrictions imposed by the government, people got attracted towards online shopping and different e-commerce platforms like Qcoom used this in their favor.

"They declared different offers and discounts, luring unsuspecting customers to pay huge money in advance to get products at comparatively low price," he said.
