Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan failed to make a cut in the KKR playing XI due to combination, said KKR assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.
Shakib was in line to make the cut in the KKR best XI in the crucial IPL match against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday after Caribbean all-rounder Andre Russell suffered a hamstring injury while trying to save a boundary during their last game against Chennai Super Kings.
We had a team meeting regarding Shakib. Actually the Skipper did not want to include three spinners in the XI. He expected a seamer as Russell is a seaming all-rounder. That’s why we have included Southee.” Abhisheikh Nayar said during the match.
‘’There is no question about Shakib’s ability. His batting and bowling is very effective in such conditions. But we wanted to bring an extra pacer to utilize the powerplay overs. That is the key reason behind Southee’s inclusion,’’ he said.
Shakib is yet to play a single match for KKR in UAE leg.
