Nigeria-born Bangladeshi forward Eleta Kingsley looked shattered on Monday as he will not be taking part in upcoming SAFF for not obtaining FIFA’s permission.
Kingsley was working hard to accomplish his dream of wearing the Bangladesh jersey in the South Asian football tournament, scheduled in Maldives from October 1.
"It is really frustrating," the forward replied without elaborating any further trying to control his emotions.
Eleta was included in the 27-member preliminary squad on September 22. Interim coach Oscar Bruzon expected that his participation would sort out the number nine crisis of the national team.
Bashundhara Kings forward Kingsley, who had been awarded Bangladeshi citizenship last March, finally got his passport and NID in June 2021.
Kingsley became the third foreign sports personality after boxer Muhammad Ali and West Indian cricketer Gordon Greenidge, who were awarded citizenship and passport by the Bangladesh government.
The celebrated sporting figures of the 20th century Ali was awarded this honour in 1978 and Greenidge in 1997.
