Bangladesh national forward Sumon Reza said that he is confident enough to score goals in the upcoming SAFF Championship due to start in the Maldives on October 1.
Forward Reza scored a brace against Kyrgyzstan U-23 team on September 10 in Bishkek but Bangladesh lost to them a 2-3 defeat.
“I am very much confident to score goals in SAFF as I scored twice against Kyrgyzstan U23s that boosted my level of confidence,” Reza told the reporters after the national team’s training session at the Bir Sherestha Shaheed Sepoy Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur on Saturday.
The men in red and green hold their third-day training session on this day. The team started practice with physical exercise followed by several drills -- ball possession, quick and speed passing. The day’s session ended with a goalless 30-minute game.
“Oscar’s coaching style is new to us, it may take some time. We are trying to adopt it. He instructed us to defend the ball in the midfield rather than on our half. He is teaching us to put pressure on opponents from the very beginning of the game. This is a new style of playing. We are learning a lot from him,” Sumon further added.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Football Federation President Kazi Salahuddin and Vice-President Kazi Nabil Ahmed and General Secretary Abu Nayeem Sohag witnessed the day’s training session.
The team will hold the last practice on Monday after a day break as they fly for the Maldives on Tuesday.
