Bangladesh Cricket Board’s newly formed election commission began its activities on September 16 ahead of conducting the upcoming Board of Directors’ Election 2021.

The member election commission had their first meeting to discuss about their plan of action in order to complete the board election.

“We have sat together and discussed about the upcoming election of BCB and now we are waiting for the voters list and once we get that we can announce the election schedule,” BCB election commission member Md Ekramul Hoque told The Daily Sun on Friday.

“I think we can complete the election process by two weeks after getting the voters list,” he said.

The commission is expected to get the voters list by September 21 as BCB’s deadline for submitting councillorship ends in September 20.

BCB President Nazmul Hasan’s second term is set to end this month, and according to the constitution, the board must arrange for the next elections within the next 45-day period.

BCB has therefore on September 1 appointed M Farhad Hussain, FCA, former President of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) as the chief election commissioner.

Md Omar Faruque, NDC, former Joint Secretary of the Bangladesh Government along with Barrister Muddasir Hossain, Legal Advisor BCB - will act as election commissioners.

Md Ekramul Hoque, a Bangladesh Supreme Court advocate and former Deputy Attorney General for Bangladesh, and Nizamuddin Chowdhury, chief executive officer of BCB - will be the other two election commissioners.

BCB insiders insist the election is expected to take place either on October 7 or 8.
