Chairman and managing director (MD) of so-called company Astha Gateway Limited have been arrested for cheating a big number of job seekers.
A team of Dhaka Metro Unit of the CID arrested the chairman Mohammad Al Amin, 48 and the managing director Harun-Ur-Rashid Badal, 43, from their office at Vatara in the capital on Wednesday.
He said that they took a handsome amount of money from job seeker in the name of giving them jobs in the government institutions and private farms.
After taking the money, they provided fake appointment letters to the job seekers. In this way, they swindled a large number of job seekers out of Tk several million.
The officer said that they seized 24 fake appointment letters in name of Imex Manpower Recruiting Agency Bangladesh Ltd. Huge application forms, visiting cards and some other things were seized from the office.
A case was filed against them and three others with Vatara Police Station.
In the same press briefing, Mukta Dhor, superintendent of police (SP) of LIC Section under the CID, told the reporters that they arrested a woman in connection with the recent robbery at 17 jewellery shops and a grocery shop at Ashulia in Dhaka.
The arrestee is Shahana Akhter, 24, wife of Anwar Hossain Dewan, from Madhya Badda in the capital on Wednesday night. Two bhories of gold ornaments and Tk 2.44 lakh in cash were seized from her.
On Saturday, Anwar and eight other robbers involved in Ashulia robbery were arrested in Narsingdi.
