Bangladesh Jewelers Association (Bajus) has demanded security to be beefed in and around gold shops across the country.

In a statement, Bajus president Enamul Haque Khan and general secretary Dilip Kumar Agarwala called for adequate security measures and deployment of police personnel.

Equipped with firearms and sharp weapons, the dacoits held the market security guards hostage and confined them to a grocery.

Later, they looted 126 bhores of gold and 926 bhores of silver ornaments and Tk 17,60,000 causing a loss of Tk 1,02, 32,000 to the shop owners.
