Detective police has arrested chairman and two senior officers of so-called TKS Health Service for allegedly attempting to embezzle about Tk 50 million from a big number of people in the name of giving them dealership of coronavirus testing booths.
Gulshan Zonal Team of DB Gulshan Division held them in Tejgaon in the capital and Jhalakathi district on Tuesday night.
Harun-Or-Rashid, joint commissioner (Cyber and Special Crime Division-DB North) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), revealed this information to reporters at the DMP media centre on Wednesday.
He said that the arrestees with their other accomplices set up an office of TKS Healthcare Service, which they called a sister concern of TKS Group, on the first floor of Al-Razi Complex on Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Sarani at Paltan.
According to the officer, on July 11, they submitted an application to Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque requesting him to permit them setting up Covid-19 test booths across the country.
They stated in the application that they had 5,126 frontline fighters ready for Covid tests. They said that they would carry out the tests in free of costs. But the ministry did not permit them.
Later, they made fake seals of the officers concerned of the ministry and made necessary papers to prove that they were permitted for the tests.
They set up a number of booths in Barishal and other places of the country. And many students got registered responding to their circular.
Deputy Commissioner of DB Gulshan Division Mashiur Rahman and DC of Media and Public Relations Faruk Hossain were among other present during the briefing.
