Bangladesh national women’s football team will return to the field next week to play two FIFA friendlies against Nepal scheduled to be held on September 8-12 in Nepal, after a long 29-month break.
The team last played in the SAFF Women’s Championship in March 2019.
Ahead of the friendlies, the Bangladesh Football Federation on Tuesday announced a 23-member squad of the women’s national team.
Three players – goalkeeper Sathi Biswas, defender Nasrin Akter and midfielder Sohagi Kisku -- got their maiden call in the squad.
The matches will be part of Bangladesh’s preparations for the upcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers.
Bangladesh will play in Group G qualifying matches against Jordan and Iran on September 19 and 22 respectively in Uzbekistan.
National women’s team coach Golam Rabbani Choton said that he emphasized more on young players in the squad looking into their older and physically strong opponents -- Iran and Jordan.
“Iran and Jordan’s girls are older than us. They are tall and physically strong enough. On the other hand, we are going to play a comparatively young team. We will take a speed move strategy,” said Choton in a press conference on Tuesday.
