21 more recognised as Biranganas

The government has recognised 21 more Biranganas (war heroines) for their contribution and sacrifice during the country's Liberation War in 1971.

The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs on Tuesday (August 14) issued a gazette notification in this regard. With the latest inclusion, a total of 438 Biranganas received the status of freedom fighters.

The Biranganas got this recognition as per the decision of the 75th meeting of the National Freedom Fighters Council (Jamuka).

The Birangana are: Hafiza Begum, Kamela, Nasima Begum, Aklima Begum, Sahera, Sharifa Islam, Firoza Begum, Ayesha Begum, Fatema, Josna Begum, Asma Begum, Rezia Begum and Ambia Begum of Natore have been recognised as freedom fighters.

Besides, Rokeya Begum and Bibha Rani Majumder of Barisal, Sandhya Rani Biswas and Anjana Bala Biswas of Khulna, Anwara Begum and Bilkis Banu of Pabna, Tahera Begum of Comilla and Badrun Nesha of Naogaon have also been recognisd as freedom fighters.
