Two street children were drowned in a pond at Azimpur Government Staff Quarter in the capital on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Lata, 11 and Razia, 10.

AKM Ashraf Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Lalbag Police Station, said that some children including Lata and Razia went to take bath in the pond at 12:30pm. At one stage, Lata and Razia drowned.

Later, Razia was taken to Azimpur Maternity Hospital where doctors declared her dead while Lota was declared dead at Dhaka Medical College around 2:00pm.

Inspector Bachchu Mia, also in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost, said that the bodies were kept at the hospital morgue for autopsies.
