BNP conducted Aug 21 grenade attack through militants: Hasan

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said on Monday the BNP carried out the grenade attack on August 21 in 2004 through militant groups.

"The BNP carried out the grenade attack on August 21 through militant groups. The confessional statements on how the people of Jamaat and Harkat-ul-Jihad and other militant groups were involved in (the attack) and how their responsibilities were shared are still available on social media," he said.

Hasan, also the Awami League Joint General Secretary, was speaking at a reminiscence meeting on Ivy Rahman, who was killed in the August 21 grenade attack, at Jatiya Press Club in the capital, a ministry
press release said.

Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem also addressed the meeting with Ivy Rahman Parishad president and valiant freedom fighter Akram Hossain in the chair.

Speaking as the chief guest, Hasan said paid deep respect to Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and all the martyrs who were killed on August 15 in 1975 and August 21 in 2004.

Remembering the contribution of Ivy Rahman to politics, the then AL women affairs secretary, he said the spouse of the late President Zillur Rahman was a pioneer of women's rise.
