As the Taliban are now grappling control over nearly 100% soil of Afghanistan, the Committee to Protect Journalists CPJ is concerned about the lives of Afghan male and female journalists and is asking the United States to protect their lives.
The committee has asked the US that has to facilitate safe crossing and urgent visas for Afghan journalists.
The Taliban claim to be in charge of securing the facilities of the channels thus, there is no need to keep armed guards at gates.
CPJ in their latest statement said that they are deeply concerned about the safety of hundreds of Afghan journalists and media workers who could be targeted by the Taliban.
“The US has a special responsibility to Afghan journalists who created a thriving and vibrant information space and covered events in their country for International media.” Reads the statement.
The statement further reads that the Biden Administration can and should do all within its power to protect press freedom and stand for the rights of Afghan journalists and media workers.
