A trawler sank in Chattogram with 41 Rohingyas fleeing from Bhasanchar of Hatiya in Noakhali district.

The trawler overturned due to strong current at the estuary of Chattogram on its way to Cox's Bazar on Friday night.

Sources at the Bhasanchar said the trawler overturned owing to strong current about 15 km away from the camp while fleeing with 41 passengers.

Fishermen in a nearby fishing trawler rescued 14 Rohingyas in the early hours of the morning, but 27 are still missing. After the rescue, local fishermen sent 14 Rohingyas to Bhasanchar.

The missing Rohingyas have not been found yet. However, the Navy, Coast Guard and locals have continued their effort to rescue the missing.

Assistant Commissioner and in charge of Bhasanchar Camp Sujit Kumar Chand confirmed the matter. Fourteen Rohingyas have been rescued and brought to Bhasanchar, he added.
