Son of martyred freedom fighter seeks intervention of PM to set land free from locally influentials

Son of a martyred freedom fighter sought intervention of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to set his land free from the clutch of some locally influential people led by Sajib Bepari.

Haji Mohammad Hanif Mia, 58, son of martyred freedom fighter Abdur Rashid, came up with the appeal at a press briefing at Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) office at Segunbagicha in the capital on Friday.

He alleged that locally influential Sajib Bepari in collaboration of Mobarrak, Motin, Rajib, Alamgir and Jamir Ali grabbed his a piece of land at Jhauchar in Shakta of Keraniganj, Dhaka, about 10 months back as he refused to pay a big amount of money as extortion to them.

“They forcibly hung a signboard,” he said.

“I went to Keraniganj Model Police Station and filed a general diary against them. But police did not take steps against them. The officer-in-charge of the police station argued me to a file a case with a Dhaka court,” he said.

He said, “As I lodged a GD, the land grabbers lodged a criminal case against me and my family members.”

Hanif Mia said that there were many allegations against Sajib and his accomplices that they took extortion from many people when they were about to builds on their land. 

He said that his father Abdur Rashid was a freedom fighter. His father and 25 other freedom fighters were killed in a war at Tetulgastola in Ghatarchar of Keraniganj on November 25, 1971, he said.

“It is a matter of regret that our land was grabbed. I seek intervention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to set our land free from the occupation of Sajib and others,” he said.

When contacted, Sajib Bepari told the Daily Sun that the allegation brought against him and others was false and fabricated. “I did not grab the land of  Hanif Mia,” he said.
