Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan reclaimed the top spot in the ICC Men’s T20I all-rounders’ list on the same day when he was voted as the winner of the ICC Player of the Month for July.
The International Cricket Council confirmed both the matter through different press releases on Wednesday.
The 34-year old, who was ranked second in the T20I all-rounders’ list, earned 34 rating points during the Australia series and overtook Mohammad Nabi of Afghanistan by just one point to move to the top of the list for the first time since 2018.
Earlier in March 2014, the left-arm spinner became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to reach the top position in the ICC T20I all-rounders’ list.
Pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who took seven wickets against Australia at an economy of 3.52, climbed 20 spots to move to 10th on the T20I bowling rankings with 619 rating points.
Meanwhile, Shakib, who became the only cricketer to take 100 wickets and score 1000 runs in T20 internationals during the recent Australia series, became the second Bangladeshi cricketer to be named ICC Player of the Month after Mushfiqur Rahim, who won the award in May.
Shakib, who was nominated for the award alongside West Indies’ Hayden Walsh Jr and Australia’s Mitchell Marsh, had showcased outstanding performances across formats during their away series against Zimbabwe during that month.
Riding on his stellar performances, Bangladesh went on to win all three series against Zimbabwe.
“It is very humbling to be voted ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July 2021,” Shakib told the ICC.
“There have been many outstanding performances during the month and that is why this is special for me. I find most pleasure and satisfaction when I contribute to wins and therefore, I am very happy to have helped in Bangladesh’s successes over the last few weeks,” he added.
