The High Commission of India (HCI) in Bangladesh has announced that the Indian visa application centres will resume their operation from today (Wednesday, August 11).

The decision was taken in view of the lifting of countrywide strict lockdown in Bangladesh as well as opening in India.

According to the HCI, applicants do not need to take any appointment or permission to apply for a visa at Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC).

All applications except for tourist visas are being accepted, the HCI said.

Earlier, the High Commission of India in Bangladesh has temporarily suspended the operations at all its visa centres across Bangladesh in view of the lockdown implemented by the government of Bangladesh from April 14.

The visa operations had resumed functioning in October 2020 after remaining suspended for more than 6 months due to the COVID 19 pandemic which hit both Bangladesh and India in March 2019. Visa was being issued under all categories except the tourist visa from the Indian visa application centres in Bangladesh.

In the year 2019, more than 16 lakh visas were issued by the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh. Bangladesh sends the largest number of foreign tourists to India.
