The 91st birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed on Sunday (Aug 8) in a befitting manner in Bangladesh diplomatic missions across the world.

The theme of the day this year was "Bangamata is a fearless companion in the crisis and struggle (Bangamata Shongkote Shongrame Nirvik Sohojatri)".

Born on August 8, 1930 at Tungipara village in Gopalganj, she was killed brutally by the assassins of Father of the Nation on August 15, 1975.

In observance of the day, Bangladesh missions abroad paid rich tributes to Bangamata and arranged various programmes, which were included observance of one-minute silence in memory of Bangamata, discussion meeting, reading out the messages of the President and Prime Minister, screening of documentary on the life and contributions of Bangamata.

According to press releases received from the Bangladesh high commissions and embassies missions in New Delhi, Beijing, Washington DC, Moscow, Paris, Tokyo, Seoul, Colombo, Doha, Athens, Vienna, Rome, Hague, Ankara, Islamabad, Khartoum, Addis Ababa, Riyadh, Brunei Darudsalam, Permanent Mission in New York, Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York, Kunming and Jeddah, and Deputy High Commission in Mumbai chalked out elaborate programmes observed the 91st Birth Anniversary of Bangamata.

The discussants highlighted the glorious life of Bangamata Fazilatun Nessa Mujib as well as her valuable contributions to the attainment of independence and to the reconstruction of the country.  

They mentioned that the intellect and prudence of Bangamata immensely helped Bangabandhu in decision makings, in organizing the party and in taking forward the movement for independence.

Bangladesh Embassy in Seoul, South Korea holds an online discussion on Bangamata's 91 Birth Anniversary

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Seoul observed the 91st Birth Anniversary of Bangamata in a befitting manner by organizing an online discussion programme. The online event included observance of one-minute silence in memory of Bangamata including the Father of the Nation and the martyred family members followed by the reading out the messages of the President and the Prime Minister. A documentary on the life and contributions of Bangamata was also screened during the programme.

The Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darudsalam observed the 91st Birth Anniversary of Bangama virtual format. While the screening of the documentary made on Bangamata, provided a clear account of the life, dedication, and struggle of Bangamata, Bangladesh High Commissioner took upon herself the responsibility to elaborate on the meaningful and glorious life of Bangamata.

Bangladesh High Commissioner Nahida Rahman Shumona in her speech said that behind every political success of Bangabandhu was the inspiration, dedication and contribution of Bangamata who never acted upon her self-interest or receded while supporting Bangabandhu.

Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Mumbai, India observes 91st Birth Anniversary of Bangamata

“Bangabandhu and Bangamata were complementary to each other, and the history of Bangabandhu’s political struggle is therefore deeply rooted in his understanding with Bangamata who never sought attention rather supported Bangabandhu in every possible way,” she said adding that the entire nation therefore owes Bangamataa lot for her unconditional support to Bangabandhu in all phases of his life.

Bangladesh Ambassador in South Korea Abida Islam in her speech paid rich tribute to the memory of Bangamata and mentioned that Bangamata faced the difficult days with firmness and courage during Bangabandhu’s frequent imprisonments and remained a source of inspiration, and courage to Bangabandhu throughout her life.

Bangladesh Ambassador in Tokyo Shahabuddin Ahmed while speaking at a discussion held at the embassy recalled the memory of Bangamata and said that she was the nucleus of all inspiration for Bangabandhu. “She remained as a shadow with Bangabandhu all through her life.”

Consulate General of Bangladesh in Kunming, China observes 91st Birth Anniversary of Bangamata

Consulate General of Bangladesh in Kunming, China observed the 91st Birth Anniversary of Bangamata Fazilatun Nessa Mujib, the wife of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu  Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Sunday in a befitting manner.

The programme began with recitation of holy Quran and offering special prayer. Messages from Hon’ble President and Prime Minister on this occasion also read out.

Paying tributes to Bangamata, Consul General of Bangladesh in Kunming A F M Aminul Islam, read out a brief biography of Bangamata Fazilatun Nessa Mujib and highlighted different phases and angles of the life of Bangamata.

Showing deep respect to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Consul General Aminul Islam remembered with deep sadness the other of members of the Father of the Nation who along with Bangamata Fazilatun Nessa Mujib martyrdom on the fateful night of August 15,1975.
