Constable shot dead at SP’s residence in Dhaka

A 22-year-old police constable named Mehedi Hasan was shot dead in the bungalow of Dhaka District Superintendent of Police (SP) at Ramna in the capital on Friday.

It is suspected that he may have committed suicide with the weapon he had.

The incident took place around 4:00pm on the day. Mehedi was later rescued in a critical condition and taken to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Ramna police sub-inspector (SI) Abdus Salam, who brought constable Mehedi to the hospital, told that Mehedi was rescued from the SP’s bungalow in Dhaka around 4:00pm and taken to the hospital. The doctor declared him dead.

He said he was shot in the chin. It is believed that he committed suicide with the weapon he had with him. However, it can be confirmed after a detailed investigation.

According to police officials, constable Mehedi’s house is located in Anehela village of Ghatail upazila in Tangail. His father’s name is Abdul Hanif. Mehedi’s constable number is 1325.
