Former BERC Chairman and valiant freedom fighter Abdur Rab Khan passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital on Thursday. He was 75.

Abdur Rab Khan, more familiar as AR Khan, breathed his last at 3:45 pm on the day.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan has expressed profound shock at the death of former BERC Chairman and valiant freedom fighter Abdur Rab Khan.

In a message of condolence, the Bashundhara Group Chairman said, “With the death of valiant freedom fighter AR Khan, the country lost a sincere and loyal personality. This is an irreparable loss.”

“I offer my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and praying that everyone can overcome this grief,” he added.

According to his close relatives of AR Khan, he had recently recovered from Covid-19 but was admitted to the hospital again due to old age complications.

He is survived by his wife and lone daughter. His village home is in Barishal.

Former Secretary AR Khan was the Chairman of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) from 2014 to 2017. When Awami League formed government in 1996, he served as the Director-General of the Prime Minister’s Office.

The former BCS officer also served as the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner. Before joining BERC, he was an advisor to the Bashundhara Group.
