39 held for selling, consuming drugs in city

 Members of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in different anti-drug operations arrested 39 people on charges of selling and consuming drugs in the city.

The DMP’s police and detective units have been conducting anti-drug campaigns in the city’s different areas, seizing drugs and nabbing drug sellers and abusers, said a DMP statement.

As part of the campaign, the police team raided different areas under various police stations and detained 39 drug abusers and recovered contraband drugs from their possession from 6 am on August 1, 2021 to 6 am yesterday, it added.

During the anti-drug campaigns, police seized 6,207 pieces of yaba, 100 grams and 217 purias (small packets) of heroin and 22.25 grams of cannabis, 110 bottles of foreign liquor and 60 bottles of local liquor, according to the statement.

Police filed 25 cases against the arrested in this connection with police stations concerned under the Narcotics Control Act.
