Bashundhara Group, a leading business conglomerate of the country, distributed relief items and face masks among the poor and destitute people in Joypurhat district on Monday.
The Kaler Kantho, one of the reputed Bengali national dailies of Bashundhara Group, provided relief through its social organisation Shuvasangha.
After the death of husband Firoz, Azida Begum has been suffering from financial problem for the last 30 years. She had a daughter who was married. Later, she died leaving Azida alone to lament.
Bashundhara Group brought smile to Azida Begum by giving relief and face mask. It also brought happiness to many other destitute people in the area.
Speaking on the occasion, Panchbibi Upazila Chairman Monirul Shahid Munna said, “Bashundhara Group has been making a great deal of assistance to the poor and helpless people since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. It has decided to distribute relief among 2 lakh distressed families across the country in the season. Other corporate houses should follow the example of Bashundhara Group and stand by the government in addressing the crisis.”
UNO Md Borman Hossain, Mayor Habibur Rahman, OC Palash Chandra Deb, Upazila Awami League president freedom fighter Abu Bakar Siddik Mandal and Shuvasangha Director Jakaria Zaman, among others, were present.
