Bashundhara Group stands by the poor in Joypurhat

Bashundhara Group, the country’s largest business conglomerate, has brought smile to hundreds of helpless families in different upazilas of Joypurhat district.

The Kaler Kantho, one of the reputed Bengali national dailies of Bashundhara Group, provided relief through its social organisation Shuvasangha on Sunday.

The relief items included 10kg rice, 3kg dal (pulse) and 3kg ata (wheat flour).

As many as 400 insolvent families received relief from Shuvasangha on Sayeed Altafunnesa Govt College premises in Khetlal upazila of Joypurhat.

Helpless woman Rozina Begum was one of the recipients of the relief. She expressed happiness and joy after receiving the foodstuffs.

“We are vulnerable people. Earlier, nobody helped us in overcoming the corona stalemate. Now, we are happy to get Bashundhara Group beside us in the critical time,” she said.

Speaking on the occasion, Khetlal Upazila Chairman Mustakim Mandal said, “Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan is sending relief to destitute people through Shuvasangha. I express thanks and gratitude to him for this noble initiative.”

Khetlal UNO AFM Abu Sofian, Sayeed Altafunnesa Govt College Principal Aiyub Hossain, Mayor Sirajul Islam Bulu, OC Nirendranath Mandal, Shuvasangha Director Zakaria Jaman, its central committee member Sharif Mahadi Ashraf Jibon, upazila Awami League acting president Abdul Mazid Molla, and municipality Awami League president Dulal Mia, among others, were present.

Meanwhile, 300 insolvent families received relief from Shuvasangha on Akkelpur Mujibar Rahman Govt. College premises in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat.

Zorina Begum, who lost one of her legs in an accident at early age, received the relief and expressed happiness by shedding tears. Her husband is not alive. Nobody helps her. She is struggling for survival. Her sufferings know no bound amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Bashundhara Group has given me food items in the critical juncture of life. The relief is of great help to me amid the corona pandemic,” she said.

Attending the event, UNO SM Habibul Hasan hailed Bashundhara Group for standing beside the destitute amid the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown.

“I express thanks to Bashundhara Group for extending food assistance to the unemployed and vulnerable people. Shuvasangha has given much effort for arranging your foods for 7-10 days,” he said.

Akkelpur Mujibar Rahman Govt. College Principal Moksed Ali, Mayor Shahidul Alam Chowdhury, OC Saidur Rahman and Shuvasangha Director Zakaria Jaman were present.
