The four-member probe committee of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) considers that the Ro-Ro ferry ‘Shah Jalal’ hit the pillar of the under construction Padma Bridge due to 'negligence' of its master and steersman.

Blaming ferry master Abdur Rahman Khan and Sukani Saiful Islam for the accident, the committee on Sunday submitted their investigation report to the BIWTC chairman, say media reports.

Talking to journalist, convener of the probe committee and also BIWTC Director (Commercial) SM Ashikuzzaman, said “Negligence of ferry master and steersman caused the accident and they both are responsible.”

Earlier on Friday, a Ro-Ro ferry on Shimulia–Banglabazar route of the River Padma crashed into pillar no-17 of the under construction Padma Multipurpose Bridge. And the incident left 20 people injured.
