Language Movement veteran Samela Rahman dies

Women Language Movement veteran Samela Rahman died of COVID-19 at Nilphamari General Hospital at 11.00 am on Thursday in the district. She was 83.

Sumon Rahman, the youngest son of the deceased, said that his mother was also suffering from various old-age complications.

She was buried at the central graveyard in the district town after Namaz-e-Janaza after Asr prayers.

She is survived by three sons and four daughters.

Nilphamari-2 constituency lawmaker Asaduzzaman Noor expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Samela Rahman.

Zila Parishad Chairman Muktijoddha Joynal Abedin, District Awami League President Dewan Kamal Ahmed and General Secretary Mamtazul Haque also mourned at the death of Samela.

Samela Rahman, a ninth grade student of Nilphamari Government Girls High School, made a unique contribution to the language movement in Nilphamari in 1952.
