25-km tailback on Dhaka-Tangail highway

A 25-kilometre tailback was created on Dhaka-Tangail- Bangabandhu bridge highway from early Tuesday causing immense sufferings to the Eid holidaymakers.

Homebound people were the worst sufferer of the traffic situation as thousands of vehicles carrying Eid holidaymakers have remained stuck on the highway.

Starting from the Bangabandhu bridge east, the tailback reached Ashekpur Bypass area of Tangail Sadar upazila.

North Bengal-bound vehicles have remained stuck for long but Dhaka-bound vehicles are running sometimes.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Bangabandhu Bridge East Thana Shafiqul Islam and in-charge of Elenga highway police outpost Yasir Arafat said vehicular movement came to a grinding halt from early Tuesday, causing the long tailback.

They also said law enforcers along with the highway police are trying to bring the situation under control.
