The government has taken an initiative to build up an international level sports complex for deprived, disabled and autistic children in Savar, state minister for youth and sports Zahid Ahsan Russell said on Monday.

“The project will cost Tk 450 crore. There will be two basements, 11-storey dormitory, residential building, gymnesium, football ground, cricket ground, gallery, swimming pool and mosque,” Zahid said in the inaugural ceremony of virtual chess competition for disabled, organised by Persons with Cerebral Palsy Foundation.

“In the last 25 years, Bangladesh earned 216 gold, 109 silver and 84 bronze medals in the Special Olympics. They are also assets of our country. They also have equal rights to lead a normal life.

“So we are trying to ensure a healthy and normal environment for them. The government is also going to build up another sports complex for them besides Sangsad.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is sincere about disabled and autistic people. She has always awarded our Special Olympics participants. Her daughter Saima Wazed Putul has been working with autistic people. We appreciate her great purpose,” Zahid added.
