Police has warned that action will be taken against transgender for any activities against public interest under conventional law, according to a message sent by Police Headquarters on Monday.
According to police, a resident under Pallabi Thana area sent a message to the Media and Public Relations Wing of Bangladesh Police mentioning that some transgender (Hijra Community) harassed inhabitants.In the message, he mentioned that some hijra members went to some apartments on various occasions, including newborns and Eid, demanding toll of Tk. 2,000 to Tk. 3,000 from locals.
“If someone did not want to give or could not afford to meet their demand, they were treated very rudely,” the complainant said.
To this end, the police headquarters informed Officer-in-Charge of Pallabi Thana for taking action in this regard. In light with the instructions, OC Pallabi called leading people of the local hijra community and discussed about the matter following health guidelines, while media and public relations wing were connected online from the police headquarters.
The law enforcers warned that action will be taken against them for activities against the public interest under conventional law.
Leaders of the hijra community expressed their determination to ensure that no such allegations will register in the future.
Getting positive development the complainant replied “Alhamdulillah” and “we feel very happy and safe, sir. I am very grateful to the Bangladesh Police."
