Founding hockey GS Momin no more

Founding Bangladesh Hockey Federation general secretary and former player Mahmud Ur Rahman Momin passed away at his Boro Moghbazar residence in the capital on Monday afternoon due to old age complications at the age of 84.

He left behind three sons and a daughter. His Namaz-e-Janaza was held after Asr prayers at the Wari club premises.

Momin played for the East Pakistan national hockey team for five years from 1960 to 1965. He also led the team for one year in 1965.

After the Bangladesh Independence, Momin played a vital role in the development of Bangladesh hockey. He served as the hockey general secretary from 1972 to 1981.

The veteran sports organiser was also the general secretary of the country’s oldest sporting club Wari Club for more than an era. He was an advisor of the present committee of the Club.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel, MP, expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of eminent sports personality Mahmud Ur Rahman Momin.

Hockey federation, football federation, athletics federation, Olympic association and the country’s entire sports fraternity expressed their condolences at the demise of the hockey organiser and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
