Lockdown: 618 held, 309 vehicles fined Tk 8.6 lakh in Dhaka

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 618 people at different spots in the capital till Sunday afternoon on charges of violating the ongoing restrictions, taking the total arrest to 2,112 for the past four days.
According to UNB report, on the fourth day of the 7-day strict lockdown the Traffic Division fined 309 vehicles for violating rules in Dhaka. Total amount of Tk 8,69,500 was collected in penalties from the vehicles in different areas of the capital.
Thirty-six vehicles were fined in Ramna area, 49 at Lalbagh , 21 at Motijheel, 21 at Wari , 29 at Tejgaon, 25 at Gulshan, 37 at Uttara 37 and 91 at Mirpur, said a media release.
Despite a vigilant position by the law enforcers, the number of both people and vehicles increased a bit on the fourth day of lockdown.
The government imposed a seven-day lockdown from July 1 to curb the increasing Covid-19 infections across the country. It will continue until July 7 midnight.
