Bashundhara Group, leading business conglomerate of the country, has stood by the helpless people of Lalmonirhat district worst affected by overflowing of Teesta and Dharla rivers and unemployment amid corona pandemic.
The Kaler Kantho, a Bengali national daily of Bashundhara Group, distributed relief items among the people through its social organisation Shuvasangha which works for underprivileged.Advocate Matiar Rahman, chairman of Lalmonirhat district council and general secretary of district Awami League, inaugurated the relief distribution at Paschim Barua Rotary High School field under Kulaghat Union of Lalmonirhat Sadar Wednesday noon.
Ferdousi Begum Beauty, poet and social activist and adviser of Kaler Kantho's Shuvasangha in Lalmonirhat, journalist Mofakhkharul Islam Majnu, Ashikur Rahmas Defense, Khorshed Alam Sagar and others were present at the occasion, among others.
In the morning, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Lalmonirhat Rashedul Haque Pradhan inaugurated the distribution of Bashundhara’s relief at Babupara Eidgah ground in Lalmonirhat Municipality.
Speaking on the occasion, he said, those who stand by people in difficult times are real friends. Bashundhara Group proved once again that they are true friends of the country by providing the unemployed people with relief items during Covid-19 disaster.
He also called for continuing this trend in the coming days as well.
Rashedul Haque Pradhan was accompanied by Lalmonirhat Municipal Mayor Rezaul Karim Swapan, Sadar Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Jabed Hossain Bakkar, Municipal unit BCL President Sharif Ahmed Mohan and others. Haider Ali Babu, Lalmonirhat correspondent of Kaler Kantho, delivered the welcome speech.It is learned that Bashundhara Group will distribute relief among 3,000 families in five upazilas and two municipalities of Lalmonirhat district. The relief will reach Aditmari, Kaliganj, Hatibandha and Patgram upazilas in phases. Each packet contains rice, pulses, flour and oil.
Hajera Bewa, a recipient of the relief and resident of Paschim Barua village of Lalmonirhat, said "I have been passing hard days since the outbreak of coronavirus last year. No one has ever helped me during this time and I have to pass my days in hunger. I have no worry this time as Bashundhara Group gave me huge amount of relief goods. May Allah bless the person, who presented me these goods, with long life."
Tears of joy poured down her cheeks while receiving gifts from Bashundhara Group, one of the largest industrial conglomerates of the country, at Paschim Barua Secondary School field in Lalmonirhat sadar upazila on Wednesday.
Hajera Bewa is not alone. Many poor, widows, physically or mentally challenged persons, beggars, day labourers, and hawkers of Lalmonirhat have received the relief.
They have expressed their happiness after receiving the gifts.
