Sydney gets Mother Language Monument

Bengali community at Sydney in Australia have taken an initiative to construct International Mother Language Memorial Monument to commemorate the sacrifice of the language movement heroes.

Main design of the proposed monument and its video animation were displayed at a seminar held at Sydney recently.

The participants of the seminar welcomed the move and liked design prepared by architect Mohammad Moniruzzaman.

Apart from Bangladesh, people of India, Tonga, Samoa, Nepal, Pakistan, New Zealand and Australia were also present on the occasion.

Kaiser Ahmed, coordinator of International Mother Language Monument project committee, received the participants at the outset of the seminar.

The event was attended by councillor Masud Chowdhury. The expats have been holding discussions and cultural events marking International Mother Language Day on February 21 for the last five years.

Masud Chowdhury called for united efforts to preserve all mother languages of the world.
