Two killed as vehicles collide, causing 14-km traffic jam on Bangabandhu Bridge

Two people were killed after two vehicles collided on the Bangabandhu Bridge early Sunday. The accident left the road blocked for two hours which caused a 14-kilometre-long traffic congestion on the highway.

The identities of the deceased and injured could not be known immediately.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bangabandhu Bridge West Police Station Mosaddek Hossain said a Dhaka-bound vehicle lost control and overturned when it reached Pillar No 18 of the bridge. At that time, a passenger bus of ‘Shyamoli Paribahan’ rammed the the maxi at 3:30am, leaving two passengers of the vehicle on the spot and seven others injured.

The injured were sent to Tangail Sadar Hospital, he added.

The OC also said the bodies were sent to 250-bed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital in Sirajganj.
