An all-out weeklong lockdown has begun in Rajshahi city in a bid to check the spread of coronavirus or Covid-19 infection.

The lockdown started at 5:00 pm on Friday (June 11) and will continue till midnight of June 17.

The local administration went for the strict measures shutting shops and transport services due to a sudden rise in both deaths and infections from the virus.

A good number of people have died of Covid-19 in Rajshahi and adjoining districts in last several days.   

Law enforcers have been deployed across the city to implement the lockdown strictly.

Meanwhile, a week-long strict lockdown imposed by the local administration started in Kushtia district from Friday midnight to check the spread of Covid-19 amid the fear of Indian variant of the virus.

The lockdown began at 12.00am and will continue till June 18 midnight.

Deputy Commissioner Md Saidul Islam confirmed the matter on Saturday morning.

No vehicles are being allowed to enter or exit these places.

However, vehicles involved in providing emergency services, ambulances, goods-laden vehicles are allowed to move on roads.

All shops and weekly haats except pharmacies will remain shut during the period.
