A medical board formed for carrying out physical check-up of cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore submitted a report saying that they did not find any sign of torture.
The three-member medical board of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on March 20 submitted the report to the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court after conducting the check-up of Kishore following a court order.Court sources said the report stated that physical examination of Kishore reveals ‘nothing out of the order’.
The medical board, however, said there is need some more investigation for further evaluation and confirmation in this regard.
On March 14 this year, the same court asked the director of the DMCH to form a three-member medical board to examine the torture that Kishore said he suffered in custody from May 2 to May 4 last year.
On March 16, the authorities of DMCH formed the medical board with Prof Dr Sheikh Nurul Fattah Rumi of ENT department, Prof Md Hafiz Sardar of Medicine department and Assistant Prof Fakhrul Amin Khan of Orthopedic department.
On March 10 this year, Kishore filed a case with a Dhaka court under the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act-2013, seeking redress.
Following the case, the court took the case into cognizance and recorded his statement that day. The court also directed the DMCH to conduct a check-up on Kishore through forming a medical board.Kishore, who was prosecuted under the controversial Digital Security Act, languished in jail for around 10 months.
After his release from jail on bail on March 4, he told media that he was brutally tortured before he was shown arrested in the case.
