Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday said that some 93.5 per cent work of the main structure of the Padma Bridge had been completed.“Over all progress of the Padma Multi Purpose Bridge project is 86 per cent, while some 83.50 per cent work of river training has so far been completed,” he said while addressing a review meeting on ongoing development projects with the officials of bridge division at its Setu Bhaban at Banani in the capital.
Quader, also the Awami League general secretary, said that some 2847 out of 2959 of railway slab and 2627 of 2917 roadway slabs had been installed.
Talking over progress of Karnaphuli tunnel construction work, Quader said the ring of 2450-meter long first tunnel tube had been installed while 815-meter road slab casting work had been completed.
Boring work of 1610 meter out of total 2450-meter long second tunnel had been completed while the overall project progress stood at 69 percent, he said.
Meanwhile, in a scripted question-answer session for minister in parliament, Quader said Tk 6,434 crore had been collected as toll so far from Bangabandhu Bridge since its inauguration in 1998.
“The loan taken from the development partners will be paid by 2034,” he told the House while replying a query from Awami League lawmaker Habibur Rahman from Bogura-5 constituency.In reply to another question from Jatiya Party lawmaker Shameem Haider Patwari from Gaibandha-1, Quader said the construction cost of Bangabandhu Bridge was Tk 3,745.60 crore.
“The money collected as toll from Bangabandhu Bridge was used to pay the loan of the development partners along with the maintenance cost of the bridge,” he said.
