At least two confirmed Covid-19 patients and four people with symptoms of the disease died at the corona unit of the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in the past 24 hours.
Hospital director Brig Gen Shamim Yazdani said that of the deceased, four were Covid-19 positive patients while four others showed symptoms of the virus infection.“Of the deceased, three were from Chapainawabganj district, while one each were from Rajshahi, Natore, and Chuadanga,” he said.
A total of 107 people have died at RMCH in just 14 days, from 24 May to 6 June. Of them, 62 had contracted Covid-19.
With the admission of 30 more patients on Saturday, the number of patients in the hospital has increased to 235 which is more than the hospital's management capacity.
At present, the coronavirus infection rate in Rajshahi stands at 51%.
To stem the spread of coronavirus, the local administration has already enforced night time lockdown from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am.
